Easter basket index 2025: how much does the holiday cost this year?

A festive basket is not just a set of products, but a real gastronomic and other symbol of Easter. Homemade Easter cakes and Italian panettone, brightly colored eggs, and a bunch of other treats become the centerpieces of the family ritual. But putting together such a basket in 2025 has become even more expensive than last year.
According to analysts from the Ministry of Finance, the average cost of an Easter basket in 2025 will range from UAH 426 to UAH 1,185. The budget version has risen in price by 33% compared to 2024, and the “elite” version by 17%. Such jumps can hardly be called pleasant, but they did not come as a surprise to Ukrainians, as inflation has affected prices in stores before.
What has risen in price the most:
  • cheese — due to rising prices for dairy products;
  • sausage — as always, one of the most expensive items in the basket;
  • wine — some Ukrainian brands have significantly increased their prices, but promise more natural ingredients and careful production technologies;
  • eggs — over the past month, we noticed a price increase to UAH 76.4, which is 30% more compared to April last year.
It is also worth noting that last year's Easter baskets sometimes cost more than UAH 1400, but this does not indicate a reduction in the price of products, but only certain changes in the traditional components of the holiday table. Simply put, the set of products has become more modest, so the overall price of the basket has not fallen (unfortunately).
If you want to save money, do what analysts do — reconsider the composition of your shopping cart. For example, choose homemade pate or baked meat instead of expensive sausages, local farm products instead of imported cheese, and try baking Easter cake at home instead of panettone. We will talk about the last point in more detail in the next section.

Easter 2025: home luxury or financial trap?

Easter cake is the heart of the Easter table, even though its sweet glazed top causes the most fierce quarrels. Its flavor cannot be confused with anything else, and the baking process itself is an event for the whole family. This year, making 3-4 Easter cakes (500-600 g each) according to the classic recipe will cost 318.4 UAH. This is 38.6% more than last year, when a similar portion cost about UAH 230.
Which ingredients are the most expensive:
  • butter has risen in price by +71% over the year, now it costs UAH 121 per 200 g;
  • milk has risen in price by 31% and costs about UAH 30 per 0.5 liter;
  • sugar and yeast have also risen in price, although not as much;
  • eggs, which we have already mentioned above.
Now let's imagine that you have a large family or want to make Easter cakes for gifts to your loved ones. Then you can't do with 3–4 pieces, so the amount instantly increases several times. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy pastries at the bakery?
Store-bought Easter cakes are not always more expensive. In 2025, you can find budget options for 80–140 UAH, depending on the weight and filling. But you should take into account the quality and taste — the homemade version often wins in this category. To save a little money, try baking Easter cakes with friends or relatives - buying ingredients together is much cheaper, and the process turns into a festive event that the whole family will remember.
