TIN or RNOKPP: what's the difference?
A unique ten-digit code remains unchanged throughout a person's life. The recipient's RNOKPP and TIN are two names for the same identification number. The numerical combination is decoded as follows:
- The first 5 digits are the encrypted date of birth. They indicate the number of days between 31.12.1899 and the date of birth of the code holder.
- The 6th to 9th digits inclusive are the taxpayer's code in the system according to card No. 1DR. The last digit in this range indicates the gender: odd - male, even - female.
- The tenth digit is a checksum digit calculated using a special algorithm.
To receive the document in paper form, you must contact the State Tax Service at your place of residence. Currently, it cannot be obtained via the Diia app. The process takes up to 3 days for a regular application, up to 5 days for an application to a supervisory authority other than the place of registration, and up to 10 days if errors or inaccurate information is found in the registration card.
TIN is mandatory for employment, registration as a sole proprietor, issuing a bank card or receiving social benefits. From the age of 14, you can get it yourself.
The history of one number: from TIN to RNOCP

The document is mandatory, except for refusal due to religious beliefs. In this case, the appropriate marks will be made:
- in the old-style passport - the right to use its series and number instead of the tax code;
- in the ID-card on the reverse side - the inscription ‘REFUSAL’.
It is useful to remember the TIN: the number of digits in it is 10. This will help you avoid making mistakes when filling out documents.
Why the name was changed
The term more accurately describes the essence and is in line with the updated provisions of the Tax Code. These changes are minor and imperceptible to citizens, but important for maintaining digital taxpayer records.
RNOKPP: everything you need to know
Despite the fact that many users have a question about what the RNOKPP is, it remains the same TIN. Accordingly, there is no need to change it - the name has been updated automatically in electronic versions of documents. Main characteristics:
- the number of digits in the identification code is 10;
- what the combination in the RNOKPP means - the encrypted date of birth and gender of the owner, his/her code in No. 1DR, and the control digit;
- how to use it - provide a paper carrier, a QR or barcode from the Diia app, or an ID card.
The document is issued for the child by the parents - it can be done by the father, mother or legal representative. This is a mandatory requirement for applying for a child's bank card at most financial institutions, even though it will be linked to the parent's account.
The RNOKPP is a combination that does not change. If the document is lost, it can be easily restored by contacting the tax office at the place of residence. For convenience, the number is indicated on the back of the ID, so holders of the new passport format do not need to use a paper version.
The RNOKPP is one of the main personal identifiers required to obtain any public and financial services. This is the same TIN under a new name, which is required for interaction with banks, tax authorities and other institutions.
